I never had my Zrank above 5 before and tbh I am not convinced about what the link provided is true. I've searched for my items and end up on near the last page but when checking out other stores for the same type of item that are on the 1st or 2nd pages I go to their store and see that #1 the item is poorly designed #2 the shop looks dead and forgotten with no new content or with very little content #3 The shop itself was very poorly put together yet they are showing up in the top results, I have no idea who changes our Zrank if it is done manually or the system does it automatically based on certain factors. But like I mentioned the search is flooded with bad designs and forgotten stores but end up on top of the search results. Confusing.

The link was intended to give this new contributor a starting point to understanding zrank. Zazzle does not seem to respond/explain anything about it, so the help files and past posts on the forum are about the only ways to attempt to understand it. There seems to be no regularity to the changes to rank when and if they happen. It is an algorhythm with no rhythm. (pun intended) The theory is---balance of number of sales to number of products.
Basically, in more detail, refresh products if they are old and have no/few views and no sales. Add new products on a regular basis. And don't forget to add a personalizing template to your products.
Read the past forum posts using search about zrank.

How do you refresh products I've never done that before.

Im seeing things the same way. My store is at 95% and my designs are pretty good I believe but none of my stuff gets views. Its 0-11 views after a few months on everything. but when I do searches the stuff on top looks... sucky. and often times nothing to do with what search keyword Im using.

My store is at 95%
What's stopping you from getting to 100%? This could be quite important in terms of Zazzle seeing your store as ready to promote.

I bumped up my royalty rates from 12.5 to 14.5% (because I realized that after the various fees, my real royalty rate was typically 8-10%), and immediately went down a z-rank.

Okay, that may explain my ability to rank up - I raised my royalty rate across the board (exception being face masks, which I left at 5%). I've done this in all venues that allow artists to set royalty rate (Teepublic, and Cafe press don't allow artists to set rates) - I'm at 95 or 100% all my stores, but zrank remains at 4 or 5... I've given up on trying to raise the rank, as I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what I could be doing wrong. If it's having a higher royalty rate, I'll live with the lower zrank.

My z-rank went down in every shop as well after increasing my royalty to 14% from a range of 9-15% (usually around 11% or 12%). I'm not absolutly sure the zRank drop is related, but I don't of any other action that would have triggered this.
I've had recent sales in every store and have been adding cover photos for months. I've been careful to add new products slowly, always with a cover image, and to ensure they get views before creating the next one. I refresh products periodically and promote multiple products daily. However, all of my shops are now ranked lower than they've been in years.
Given that I'm within the overall royalty guidelines, albeit perhaps not using Zazzle's "preferred" royalty, I am disheartened. I was hoping to offset all the royalty inconsistencies and discounts with a small percentage increase, but in the long run, I've inadvertently somehow shot myself in the foot. This came as a hard blow right before Christmas, and on the heels of challenges with Collections, file uploads, diminishing affiliate marketing results, et all. If our Z-rank is related to the royalty we set (and especially its still within parameters), than Zazzle needs to be more transparent about it (e.g., it's not mentioned in the zRank help article), but perhaps the two were unrelated.
I am trying to not be derailed, maintain hope, and push harder to promote products, but I'm still processing this unexpected impact and what to do about it. I'm sorry this happened to you, as well!

For me, I notice that my zRank fluctuates depending on how often I earn a referral sale (which is not often). I earned a referral sale in September and my zRank increased to 7. Since I didn’t didn’t earn any more referral sales after that, it went back down to 6 in two month’s time.

I recently changed my royalty rate from 10% to 14.5% and my zRank went from 5 to 4 in the same week. I've been on Zazzle since December 2022 and I've been working hard, especially going through all the changes implemented for collections and cover photos in 2023. It's discouraging, especially when we can't understand why we are penalized. Factors that can affect our zRank are unclear despite the information provided by Zazzle on their help page. I agree Zazzle needs to be more transparent about it and give us various concrete examples to explain what can affect positively or negatively our zRank, and the impacts it might have on our products exposure.
