New Product Insights Action in Backend, Individual Product Pages

Great to see the new action "Product Insights" in the backend and on the individual product pages.

Delivers an amazing Google Analytics-type breakdown of where the views and orders are coming from over several date ranges, how shoppers found your product, and top search terms.

Very much appreciated!

Wow...what a fantastic addition. Especially helpful to see the breakdown of how shopper's found us and the search terms most used. Thank you Zazzle!! 🌻

Where does it say in the stats the search terms people used? I can't seem to find it.

At the bottom, scroll down. But only if Zazzle views are generated/shown.

SO COOL! 😍 This is a fantastic new piece of backend data. Unsurprsingly, the majority of my views are coming from Zazzle searches but also a notable amount are coming from Zazzle offsite marketing.  Most of the search terms are from searching on Zazzle (and tend to be a word from title+product name) but some are from searching on Google. And some are not in English. In one surprising case, the top search term was something that didn't appear in my title, tags or description (it came from Google search). I've been marketing my Mid Century Modern designs as 1950s but somebody found one by searching 1960s  even though I didn't use that as a tag so I immediately made it a tag.

Another insight. We often have threads where people talk about products that have been viewed countless times but never bought, or rarely bought. From this new insights feature I finally got an answer. I have a poster of a manzanita tree that I photographed while vacationing in California. "Manzanita" and "California" are both tags. It is constantly viewed, never bought. Turns out it has never been searched for on Zazzle (or at least not in the past 365 days). Every single search result that led to a view came from Google and they were all from people wondering what manzanita trees actually look like. So I gave this a cover photo that makes it clear this is a poster for display and not just an example of what manzanita trees look like.
Love this new feature.

First I hadn't noticed that this was even in the store management area so I thank @WHS_Designs for posting about it. Thanks @KeegansCreation for sharing your insight on this. I checked a few of my products to understand what you were sharing.

I looked at my top seller, my most viewed product, and my worst, but I ended up gleaning little from the insights that would be useful. Basically, I'm seeing what is as opposed to what I might do better. Wait a minute: Tags are vital, but I already knew this.

How can I use the information to improve views and sales?

Colorwash's Home

Actionable insight that applied to me and may apply to you: did you have any products where the product was found via a term that was not in your tags, via google search. I did have this and on a few* products I looked at. I immediately put the term in my tags.

*Upthread I referred to this discovery as "one surprising case" but after posting I kept looking through my products and found more examples. So it's worth a look.

Non-actionable but fun insight: people found my shark sunglasses with google searches on "shark week" and "jaws". Yay they found my glasses but I certainly can't use either of those terms as a tag for sharks for IP protection reasons.

KeeganCreations

It didn't even dawn on me that I was looking at search words people had used. Now that is one very good insight, and I thank you for setting me on the right path.

I looked at one of my products that gets views every single day and has as of 2 days ago (views count is dead again) 167,167 views with only 19 sales. I wanted to know where in heck all those views are coming from. I found Zazzle "Marketing & SEO 95% (775)," which doesn't account for all those clicks. I guess it will forever remain a mystery.

I like seeing the keywords, it gives me ideas on keywords, that I never even thought to use in my tags. I also like seeing that I brought 100% of the traffic to my product, looks like my marketing efforts are working.

I guess that not all statistics are uploaded to everyone yet.

I looked at my most viewed item (10,200) and the statistics showed 1 view from 2/1/2023. Most of my sold items that I checked on before reading this post showed no activity at all. I was researching something else when I noticed this new tab and thought - hey that looks like it would be a good resource for info. -- Not yet for me.

WAIT -- I just noticed the button at top of page was for LAST 7 days. LAST 365 days actually show information - GREAT♥️♥️♥️

This is a really helpful feature. From looking at it, plus the comments here, the interpretation of the insights is key to its usefulness. I'm getting more from my own efforts than I realized. Sometimes you feel you are just flailing in the air. I'm going to check further back in time to see how the search terms look for older products. I am really happy with all the changes that Zazzle has made in the past year.

This is definitely a great addition.  It's calculated product by product...is there a way to get the overall view?  For example - for all my listings - what % of views are from Z's efforts and what % from mine?  An aggregate?

TheDesignerVib1

Am I the only one who can't see views on any listing using this tool?

Did you try using the dropdown at the top to have it look at a longer period of time?

Colorwash's Home

I did it only shows orders, But i think the views haven't been updating for 3 days,

See my earlier post - there is a bar at upper right of the Insights page that defaults to 7 days.  If you have had no activity/sales in the last 7 days, it shows nothing. I am now increasing the time to 365 days - that's an improvement, but I certainly would like to see for ALL TIME.

Truly nice and interesting feature, especially in regard to the tags. It would be very helpful to have also an overview of how many views are referred and how many "true" your own (with your own referral or direct links when in promoter program), right now it seems to me, both referrals and your own are put together. UNLESS all my third-party sales came from Zazzle links with Zazzle referral IDs in the past year.

One of the best new features to date. Very useful information to help guide and understand where improvements can be made. Very much appreciated over here. 👍👍

It is sad to be able to see that since Z's prioritizing cover images, that products that were getting many views all the sudden in Jan nosedive to very few or none.

I've also noticed that since 2023 began that the daily sales of certain product types have stopped.  Again assuming this is tied to cover images.  But the stats confirm the nosedive of products that did sell.

While I do think this is a great addition, I also feel like the stats could use much more info.  There are products where I am getting all the credit for driving traffic, but I have never promoted them.  So it is a promoter that is driving my traffic, not me.  Most of what I see is "look at all the promoting Z is doing for me"...  and while I've always know Z does a lot of promoting for me, this feels in your face about it.  And there are no other nuggets to glean where other traffic is actually coming from.  I haven't managed to find a product that has a social media traffic number, but I am curious if it lists the social, or if the traffic is listed as from a social media.  I want to know if which one.

All in all, I think it is a great start.  I love seeing the search terms used to find a product.  I have found that many of the searches for my products occur in a non English language and wonder if I should tag in those languages too??  At least now I can copy paste the proper spellings from the info provided.

I look forward to seeing how this new tool evolves and hope that in the future that we can get even more useful info from it.

Thanks Z team!

Anyone else seeing discrepancies between the number of views shown in the back end...and the number of views shown on the insights screen?  I know we've had trouble with the view counter...but I have a product that shows 18 more views on the 'insights' screen than views in the back end.

WHS_Designs
Honored Contributor II

for my older, more established sellers (some that go back 6 years), I do see views, but I can't say if the view count is correct, as we are only given an aggregate figure for Views in Quick Stats, and Insights only shows views as far back as 365 days.

for my direct-only products, Insights can't seem to pick up any views, even though Quick Stats does show a positive figure for Total Views.

Fiorenzo
Valued Contributor II

The views you are seeing in the insights are only Zazzle-related. It seems that anything that is brought in by yourself or affiliates lands in the "You brought X% of views" pot and is not shown in the charts. This may end in product statistics showing sales but no views, if 100% of them are your own or from affiliate links. I already wrote it would be nice if we would also have some sort of statistics that shows the % of our own and third-party affiliates' links/views to get an idea.

Of course !  I wasn't thinking.  Products older than 365 days will likely not match the total views from the back end.

GabiwArt

I have a question about this. Do I see it correctly that the products where I clicked View Insights appear under Last Viewed Date?

Sara_H
Honored Contributor III

@GabiwArt You can see it there or on the product page in the Listing Tools. If it has sold in the last year, you'll see data that relates to the search term that found your product- click the drop down to 365 days to see. If it hasn't sold - you should see views if it's had any in the year (in theory)
click 365 days

Thanks Sara, but that's not what I meant. I meant - and by now I'm sure of it - that these products I checked this way show up in "Last Viewed Date". And that distorts my statistics a bit 😢
