We created individual product cover photos in hopes of standing out from other product images on the MP page. We still have quite a few to do. We also figured Google search would prefer the variety on the product page.
We have just done collection cover images because from our exposure to retail marketing, we hoped to sell multiple items to every customer. However, while we are familiar with retail collection market, such as in clothing marketing and in catalog marketing, but we weren't familiar with other online companies doing multiple product cover images. Well, I just found Kroger doing it.
You will have to use the image slide show below the product to see the three Kraft cheese spread image.

I'm not sure if I get what you mean. Kroger and Zazzle are companies from two different categories.

Some comments about the multiple product collection cover photos seemed to suggest that someone at Zazzle had come up with the collection cover photo idea on their own. So last night when I saw Kroger doing it on their website. I thought maybe the idea was a new website design trend.

Kroger doesn't have it as the FIRST image for the product! If you search on their website, you see the exact style and product you are looking for.
