Wanting to create a limited-edition product

I plan on creating a limited edition art product, but I need any information I can get about how I would do one; do you have any suggestions?

You could say that your design will only be available until X date in your description. When X date arrives, you delete it or hide it.

I have a “what if” question: what if your limited edition product had the potential to become a best seller with a lot more sales if you didn’t advertise it as a limited edition product? I bought a limited edition watercolor print from an artist online. When demand exceeded her limited number of prints, she printed more, and continued to sell it. That was the last time I bought artwork from her. So, what has the potential to make more money for you?

Well, that was a scummy and dumb move from that artist. If you decide to sell limited editions, you MUST keep your sales to that predefined number or you'll throw your reputation out of the window. Usually, you charge more for these prints, and ideally, you number them individually, e.g. 1/500, 33/500, etc..

IMO, this is a job you would do through your website, where you can manage both the content AND the individual number and feed your non-customizable (for buyers) product on Zazzle via API. Just posting a limited edition on Zazzle won't truly work for a myriad of reasons.

Well, I shall take your advice. Thank you so much for offering it, and I hope that you will visit my new Zazzle store soon.-JW

Personal opinion, of course. Feel free to experiment around, we all do/did this all the time, part of the job. I would first concentrate on regular designs, you can then still offer additional limited works to your community and fanbase built up on socials, wherever, when time comes. Good luck!

yup, will do. Cheers!

Well, I just thought that I would ask this question about whether or not I could do a limited-edition product.

You can by simply deleting or hiding the product when the time limit is reached. But as Jadendreamer13 points out, you could really be hurting your sales by doing it. It's easy to do but I think it's a bad idea.

At this point in your career - which looks like it's a very recent career - a limited edition would be a waste of time. 1) You need a lot of rabid followers 2) You're not significantly established or consistent online FB/youtube/Inst 3) At this time, you need to experiment with and learn more about the art you will eventually produce. You think you know what you're going to create, but a year from now, with experience, you could be looking quite different, and with age, more differences and changes.
