I sell a lot of posters & foam core boards - mostly for wedding signs - and customers are VERY confused by the standard size options. They don't understand that the design will not re-arrange itself to accommodate a different aspect ratio, so they end up clicking around on different sizes, and in the process, they inevitably end up cutting off a significant portion of the design. Once they've done that, they're stuck - because unless they wrote down the original dimensions there's no way for them to undo their changes and get back to the original size.

It used to be that if you restricted the size to "this size only" the standard sizes would go away, but the choose your own size spinners would remain. This was perfect because it would easily allow customers to choose a different size without the risk of changing the aspect ratio (unless they purposefully un-linked the chain to do that.) But that functionality went away, and now the only choice is to restrict to the original size, or throw open the gates of confusion with all of the "standard sizes."

Could we pretty please get that functionality back? It could be a separate choice - so you could still have "restrict to this size only", or you could choose "restrict to choose your own size only", or you could have "all options". I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to help customers who have accidentally cut off part of the design because they didn't understand, and it would make for a much better customer experience if the system wasn't so confusing.

I've added the following infographic to my cover photos, but it's still a huge problem.

TIA for considering my plea...

I will have to check out your designs. It's like you and I design on different planets. I also sell welcome signs and tons of seating charts. I don't remember the last time I got a customer that needed help or sounded confused.

@CrazyMermaid Very strange. The usual scenario is that they want a bigger size, so they choose a standard size that's bigger, but it's inevitably a different aspect ratio, and then they contact me saying that the design is cut off wanting reassurance that it won't print that way. Perhaps I'll go look at your stuff. Maybe I'm putting my things on sizes that are too small or something.

ETA - OK, I went and looked at your stuff and it actually was helpful. You tend to put things on the standard sizes - like your seating charts are on the largest standard size - so that does remove the temptation for people to go click on a bigger size. I tend to use custom sizes because often the layout works better with a somewhat wider aspect ratio than the 24x36 size. I generally prefer the 18x24 aspect ratio, but they don't have standard sizes in that shape that are big enough. I suppose I could try to re-work my designs to fit... Or maybe my problem could be solved (or at least ameliorated) if they offered a few more standard sizes that were closer to the 18x24 aspect ratio - like maybe 24x30 and 30x36.
