I am wondering if any research has been done to determine consumer preferences for express check out? I have had several potential clients tell me they do not like having to create an account in order to purchase a product, especially something very inexpensive like a card. Are we losing sales because Z does not have express check out? Just curious about the pros and cons?

@BCasTal
You bring up an interesting point..
I would not want to create an account just to purchase something, esp if I did not intend to use the site again. Whichever way, z gets your info, including your email, addy, etc
Check out as a guest, (express checkout) without creating an account, would seem to be much more convenient and appealing

I don't see IMO any benefit to the designers or to Zazzle to allow a tiny percentage of buyers to purchase a product with zero follow up opportunities, and leave the buyer at a disadvantage in the future to not get contacted when products are on sale etc. etc. etc.  I have customers who not only buy from me here on Zazzle but have actually created a profile on the site that promotes what they do with a header image on the landing page and I don't know if they are allowed to share that link to their profile to some advantage...l but they seem to like it.

Granted not every will want to setup a profile here and there are probably a small percentage who come here for a "one off" purchase.

Even if they purchase a guest: they still have to provide an email address if they want to track their purchase shipment progress, be contacted if there is an issue with the order, etc. etc. etc.  So I'm not sure what advantage buying as a guest give the buyer?

Interesting subject. Personally, I think customers should be given the option to purchase as a guest without an account. I buy almost everything online and I only set up accounts on sites that I know I'll purchase from often. If I can get the same or similar item for a similar price where I already have an account, I'll purchase it there rather than be forced to set up another account. Why? Because I don't want hundreds of accounts that require hundreds of passwords that often result in hundreds of emails (until you unsubscribe). I'm sure there are lost sales because customers are required to set up an account, whether the loss is significant or not is hard to know. Customers like options and it seems as though having the option for guest check could be a benefit to everyone.
