Today I discovered that this reseller https://www.zazzle.com/store/digitalparadise is somehow selling a print of mine as Downlabale! https://www.zazzle.com/house_fall_halloween_farm_art_poster-256114389277876310 I don't know how they are able to do this. I do not have any of my art available for download because all my designs are my original artwork. Having them available for download will open up opportunities for people to steal and pirate my artwork and possibly sell their own prints or use them against copyright on websites or digital products. What can I do to make sure resellers do not sell my products as downloads?

This is crazy. I wonder how many people haven't noticed this issue with their art? The account link is still showing but the link to your art is now dead, Malissa.

@MissPaperFarm
If you haven't already, doublecheck to see what you have active in settings for instant download settings, might explain how your image is showing as an instant download.
But it doesn't explain how another shop is selling your image as an instant download.
(in the screenshot below, ANY means you are not signed up for instant downloads)

You can report the seller for illegally selling your art and request that Zazzle take it down by using the "report this design" link. Just navigate to the other seller's product using your artwork, click on the link and then say something like, "this store is illegally selling my artwork" and then provide a link to your product.

Thank you, I saw this and it looked like a lot of crazy legal stuff requiring an electronic signature? I just figured this is a glitch in which someone was able to take advantage and was hoping Zazzle could fix this technical loophole on their end. Maybe I will mention it in the technical issues board.

Electronic signature? Hmmmm... well maybe I missed something, but when I've used it I just click the first option: "I believe that this violates intellectual property or other proprietary rights." Then write a quick one sentence thing saying that they're using my artwork and include a link to the original. I've reported literally hundreds of designs this way and they usually take them down within 24 hours.

Hi, First of all YOUR artwork is stunning and I am sorry this has happened to you. I also have had 2 designs (that I am aware of) stolen and published here on Zazzle within the last few weeks but mine was to physical products. I reported one and you basically have to write a book to prove yourself and the 2nd I just came across and reported today. I see the biggest issue here is with Zazzle not protecting OUR work on screen. There should be a watermark automatically on site for product pages. Another thread is going through the same thing, you can watermark your designs but it only shows in the designer, not on the actual public product page... this is outrageous and something certainly changed here, not for the better. I am seeing a lot of "new accounts" with stolen work.

Thank you so much and I’m sorry you have had to go through stolen designs as well. It’s such a bummer. Zazzle should be on top of this, I agree! I’m wondering if allowing the watermark would even work. I’m not sure how this account is getting the images for download, whether they are actually hacking Zazzle somehow or if they actually don’t have the image at all and maybe scamming the buyer ?

Dude stole one of my dartboards, design, description and tags. He even stole the cover photo. It appears that he is losing a lot of image quality in the process of his theft.

Sorry to hear! I’m glad I pay attention to who lurks my products or I would have never known. I knew the other designs they had on there were also stolen. There should be a way to report accounts, but I only saw a way to report the image.

@MissPaperFarm I’ve had a handful of suspicious looking accounts like products. He only liked the one he stole a couple of days ago, and I notice because I don’t get so many that I can’t keep up. But, I haven’t found a way to look at the account unless they follow me and they usually don’t. Would you mind telling me how you check the accounts that you find suspicious?

Aw yes, it was because the account followed me! 😂 I was able to then see their account. I don’t like that either how I am not able to look at accounts unless they follow. When they just like a product, I’m not able to check the account either.

So I found the original on red bubble and messaged that artist. It’s here https://www.redbubble.com/i/ipad-case/Purrfectly-Adorable-Phone-Case-Cute-Cat-Playing-with-Bubbles-b...
this account should not be allowed to stay.
edited: I reported this with the red bubble link, but I don’t know how much good it will do. I also voiced that I think his account should be terminated. Not that I have a say but maybe they will take note of multiple infringements.

@1234Shine
He was using every ones exact titles, descriptions, and tags so I googled the title, but left the product type off the end. I got lucky that it was one of the top things that came up. I just had to click a couple of things to find it. So mostly luck.

Awesome! 👏 I just looked and yes, the fake duplicate listing is gone now! So, follow @Cat advice and report the image if anyone finds this happening to their designs and in the additional comment box, explain the issue and leave a link to your original product listing.

There's been a huge uptick of these seemingly bot type of designers (store names are just names with #s after it like a screenname or username for ex. KristinaKaminski939) using my store name in their tags. I put my store name in all my tags to easily find my products so these "designers" are just copying and pasting tags from my products that don't have much to do with their design. I've been reporting about 12 daily from 3 or 4 different stores. It's getting tiring. Luckily I haven't had any designs stolen... yet anyway. So sorry this is happening to you guys.

Oh my gosh that’s awful too! 😩 I agree with @ColsCreations there needs to be more punishment for fraud, but most fraud comes from outside of the country in which a business operates in and that makes things more difficult. I have noticed that after Zazzle’s official Instagram account started following my Instagram (which I thought was so cool they followed me 🤩 ) I then started getting a bunch of suspicious insta accounts saying they were Zazzle designers yet they had generic looking product posts, no indication of being a real person and strange names, following me on Instgram! I had to continue to block them for two weeks and I will continue to block them if I get anymore. I think they are scoping out products to steal.

All those links now lead to dead pages so reporting works. Yay! I suppose it was all done through screen caps, especially since JerryLambert noted image degradation. It's good to see such a speedy turnaround.

This kind of thing blows my mind. If someone stole your purse or phone or laptop etc and then was caught red-handed with the goods, you could report it the police and insist on theft charges being filed against them even if the goods have been returned to you. But with IP theft, you can do "take down" requests to get your goods returned to you so to speak, but there is no legal consequence to the thief. None. I was reading up on this months ago and unless you have paid (and it's not cheap) to register an official copyright, you're out of luck if you want the thief to face legal penalties. It's bunk and makes my blood boil that such brazen thieves see no consequences other than having a listing removed or an account closed.

So much of this stuff is cross borders… the guy you all are looking at at least claims to be based in Morocco… no one’s going to go through trying to either extradite someone or sue them in a foreign county unless the crime is major, so the best you can do is whack-a-mole…

Hi Creators,
I'm so happy to see you all working together to identify and bring these unscrupulous people to justice. We're fighting a war with these bad players and a strong united community will help weed out the undesirables simply looking for a quick buck. However please be mindful of our Community Guidelines, especially around this topic and in regards to identifying another user, publicly. While this scenario worked out, I don't want your good intentions to get you in trouble. Just something to be conscious of in the future, please.
As a creative, It is important to note the risks of doing business on the internet, including bad actors who have intent to steal designs, screenshot without paying for it, as well as reselling designs on different marketplaces outside of Zazzle. We at Zazzle are continuing to do our best to protect Creators from bad actors:
- We have a Content Management team who reviews each and every order to ensure content is not misappropriated or stolen
- We offer features to flag and report designs that are suspected as being stolen
- We have proprietary, AI-based technology to detect infringing content before products are posted to the marketplace
- We take action against accounts who violate our terms of service who attempt to resell designs or possess stolen IP – including termination of their Zazzle account
- We offer Creators ways to enable watermarks on designs within their store when viewed at high resolutions
- Offering Instant Downloads to serve as a vehicle to allow customers and Creators to ‘do the right thing’ and purchase the design to support the Independent Creator who made it.
Despite these protections, it is still possible for image theft and screenshotting to occur – not just on Zazzle, but any other site where you monetize your Creativity.
To this end, we also recommend you take some steps to help make this more difficult:
- Create a clear copyright notice on your store profile, product listing
- Create a visual signature in your content: either an attribution line or in the visual pattern of your work
Thank you.

The copyright notice is something I've never thought to do, but more important is that I rarely remember to place a signature on even my more important artwork. I'm going to place a prominent note to myself about this on my monitor until I do it automatically.
Thank you, James, for your post.

I'm not completely clear on the wording here either, but in the "about this product" section of each of my listings, I put at the end of the product description "original artwork by" and then put my name or you could put your designer name. That helps for people to see who is the original artist or designer. The fraudulent accounts seem to not bother changing any wording in descriptions which is actual a good thing in this case.
