If you're reading this post for the first time, please note that we just posted an update with new information here: https://community.zazzle.com/t5/general-zazzle-discussion/creator-updates-for-upcoming-instant-downl...
*****
Hi Everyone,
We wanted to let you know that we've added some additional information about our upcoming instant download offering on Zazzle. You can find the news article here.
Most importantly, the deadline for opting out of this new feature is January 12th. This opt-out date is for entire stores. Once the program is launched you'll be able to add or remove individual products as you wish.
Also in the article are links to additional information about this new feature, including a FAQ if you're looking to review all of the basics.
You're welcome to ask questions below, and we will do our best to provide answers in a timely manner. We may be able to answer some questions immediately, but sometimes we may need a bit of time to check in with the appropriate member of the team. It's also possible that someone here at the office may stick around after hours and update our FAQ document with a handful of questions at once. In any event, we'll be doing our best to ensure that everyone is able to receive clarity on this new offering.

That's been my decision--to do it case by case after watching what happens when digital downloads go live.

I don't want to see my designs in someone else's shop on Etsy or on Amazon, which has my final art with my blessings NO, I don't want that. But I wouldn't be against unique digital downloads with a limited number of mods and low quality, enough to announce an event to your family and friends, without being printed. They can ALWAYS modify, of course, there are unscrupulous people, but I don't want that to be done with my consent. I can't imagine someone who paints his watercolors and finds his design anywhere, sold and modified over and over again.... It will be the end of us.

How would allowing a digital purchase void your copyright?

From your store, not from your account, go to Settings then Advanced Settings and scroll down to find options.

@Víctor_Solano Go to your store (or each store if you've more than one) and go to Settings > Advanced Settings. Scroll down a little bit until you see text in a yellow box. You'll see a spot for a checkmark. If it's empty, click it to place a checkmark there, which signifies you agree to the digital downloads. Left empty will mean you don't.
Zazzle hasn't announced yet when the downloads will be offered to customers.

Question, can a customer transfer a design from a product that doesn't allow digital downloads to one that does?
For example, if a customer buys a seating chart on a foam core board and wants a digital copy for some reason, can they transfer their completed design to a poster so they can buy a digital copy, or would they have to start over and re-do their design on a template that I created on a poster? Or could they send me a share link for their design which I could transfer to a poster and then publish privately? Same issue applies to Save the Dates - if they bought Save the Date postcards or magnets, is there a way they can get a digital download?
I'm trying to figure out how that might work so I can best advise my customers. I believe I saw some reference to this topic somewhere, but I've searched and searched and can't find it. TIA for any info you can provide.

Apologies for the delayed response here...I must have missed this question earlier.
Unsure what the future holds, but at this time a customer cannot transfer a product and then download it. The only way that a customer will be able to download a product is by going to the product page, then selecting the download option, then checking out. Then the customer will be linked to a new page where they will have a download option.
So, that's possibly bad news if you were hoping to allow users to transfer products + download them without your assistance. For now, you'll need to publish the product + enable digital, then they can purchase + download.
Does that help clarify things a bit?

Thanks! Totally makes sense. Hopefully more products will be eligible in the future. Honestly, the situation where I get the most download requests (at least the most urgent ones) are foam core seating charts that got damaged in shipping. But that's a whole other issue.

when we say invitations -- is that limited to wedding or does it include birthday parties, retirement, graduation, etc?

Pretty sure it means the invitation product. So whatever design you put on it would be available for download.

Stationery is not my primary target, but I've opted in.
Let's see how it goes.

When the test starts you will have the option to enable individual products for Instant Downloads. You'll go to your store backend and click on the product (or products) and select the Enable option in the Actions menu.

Cool, thank you. Any estimate when that will be? If it is something that is still down the road, I can do it my other way, but if it is something that will be happening in the next day or very soon, I would like to try doing it on here and see how it works.

Will you give us a heads up when enabling individual products for digital download will become active? I'm not seeing it as an option for either an individual invitation or group of invitations.

I just saw that the instant download option is already enabled for each product. I'm going to try a few very simple templates, without graphics or special fonts, which are quite popular. I have recorded the royalty percentage that I thought appropriate and I have entered to see how I should edit and the royalty is different from the one I have saved.... Why does this happen?

I changed some of my royalty amounts and it says "Please allow up to 24 hours for any Instant Download Royalty rate changes to go into effect." So I'll check them again over the week end to see if they've changed. 🙂

In the following products, the royalty that was modified in the first product has automatically come out.

I just got on and saw this new feature today, I hadn't noticed it before now.
I think it could be neat for coloring pages as I sell my designs as digital coloring pages else were.
That way people can print and color them themselves at home and experiment with say watercolor paper and such
...but for my other art I'm not really into it...
It feels like it might just be another way that people could take the artwork and exploit it...
I get that there is an opt out option and that you can disable it on your products...
but I don't really like that all of the poster products and stuff are just now suddenly automatically opted in 😞 I had to go through all of them and opt out everything except my coloring pages... wich was not fun!
I think everything should be automatically opted out to start with so designers can choose what they want opted in rather than going through and opting out what they don't want. Much less of a pain in the ass imo
