We used to have a thread that we could ask for advice on help with tags and titles for a new product. I really am not sure where that was before in the old forum. But I would like to ask for help with a new store I am starting up. I created a design that has 1 word that is customizable. But I am not sure how to distinguish this product from all of the other products on the platform where you cannot customize the text.
Solved! Go to Solution.

My way would be to distinguish it in the title. People who have searched "sarcastic mugs" or "funny mugs" will see the wording in the thumbnail but it's not obvious that "sarcasm" can be changed. Maybe title it "If Only (Your Word Here) Burned Calories" or something that doesn't have "sarcasm" in the title so people can see how "sarcasm" is optional. Then you have to make sure to put sarcasm and sarcastic in the tags.

I created a new listing with some of the suggestions. 🙂 I also realized I needed to tweak the design a touch because the word wasn't going with the banner. hehe

It was suggested I might start a new thread on 'Zazzle tagging best practices', so I did some searching and found this thread! I figure this is as good a place as any, rather than starting multiple threads on the same topic.
Here's Zazzle's Help Article about Titles, Descriptions and Tagging (really useful for me, and I've probably now got a ton of work ahead of me to optimize things!):
https://help.zazzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000373127
And here's another thread on the forum here about tag synonyms. Worth knowing about too:
I'll add stuff here if it's about tags and related stuff, so it's all in one place. You can too. 👍

Wow I never thought of the synonyms causing conflict like that before. What a fascinating read.
What I keep wondering about are the "banned words" from the previous forums. Does anyone remember that thread? I actually have a copy of that top level post. Let me grab it...

I *am* currently reworking titles, tags, and descriptions on existing products. It's an OVERWHELMING amount of work. Anyway... Titles! Zazzle's Help article says "DON'T use the same title more than once or copy another design's title." It also says the title is "... keywords that thoroughly describe your design." This is crazy. Isn't it? Not only is the limited space a challenge; I'm finding that after a while my titles start reading like gobbledygook! 😰 Any suggestions for ways to handle this?

From the Old Forum, I had a copy of the top level post regarding deleted "or ignored" tags.
Deleted Tags
Deleted tags are sometimes a mystery because, not only are product types deleted, but quite often so are words related to those types. What if we build our own list based on what we've personally experienced?
Be aware that, if we search, we should do it as a customer might, not as we may know how to do it such as wrapping search terms in quotes. So what if we can find things? We want the customer to find them too.
This list will be added to as people add banned words in posts beneath this one:
apron
art deco & art nouveau (leaves "deco" and "nouveau")
award
baby (This one is odd. Sometimes it can be used and sometimes not.)
backpack
bag
baking
bandana & bandanna
baseball
basketball
belt (forget about Santa's belt)
bib
bicycle, bike
binder
blanket (For the beach? No way.)
book & books
bookmark
bowl
bracelet
button (Sheesh!)
calendar
candle (Can't burn it at both ends.)
candy (acceptable on some products, greeting cards, for instance)
canvas (Painters beware!)
card
case (no thieves can case the joint)
charm
children (child can be used)
chocolate
christmas (when used for an ornament)
clipboard
clock
cloth
clothing
coffee (if used on a mug)
cookies
country girl (It should only be for clothes, but Zazzle removes it for everything.)
cover
crafts (Ex: "country crafts". Combos are completely removed such as in "cottage crafts" where "cottage" is removed.)
cribbage
cup
custom, customized, customised
decal
decor
decorations (you're allowed, however, to "decorate")
drumstick (Drummers and turkey lovers, don't bother)
electronics
embroidery (leads to Zazzle's embroidered products)
envelope
eraser
fabric
flask
flyer (Need to check for "flier" as relates to birds & bees)
football
frame
frosting
greetings (such as in "season's greetings")
hammock (No cartoon character relaxing with lemonade.)
handbag
hanger
hat (No black hat, cowboy hat, high hat, or anything else.)
headphones
hoodie
home (Works in general, but not for doormats. May be other products too.)
igloo
inlet
invitation
jacket
journal
label
lamp (so, no oil or kerosene lamps)
laptop
leggings
magnet (Gee, not even the big horseshoe kind?)
mug
napkin (No need for Jeeves to pick up the one that slipped to the floor.)
necklace
night ("nighttime" can be used)
notebook
notepad
organizer (Obama wouldn't be happy to know he was never a community organizer.)
ornament[s]
painting
pan
pen (Just try tagging for an antique quill or fountain pen.)
pencil (No more drawings, all you artists)
personal, personalized, personalised
pillow
pin (Straight pin, fraternity pin, pin feathers anyone?)
pitcher (not even in the game of baseball)
planner (as in wedding planner)
plaque
plate
platter
polo (No polo players!)
post (Zazzle doesn't sell posts as far as I can tell.)
postage
postcard
pouf (There used to be a hairstyle called a pouf.)
presents
purse
puzzle
quilt, quilts, quilting (can use quilted, quilter)
ribbon (Exacerbate it by saying "ribbon candy" & see nada.)
ring
robe (Forget about Joseph's coat or robe of many colors.)
scarf
sewing machine (reduced to "machine")
shirt (Not allowed to lose your shirt)
shoes
skateboard
skin (Without which, we'd lose all our innards.)
sleeves
snow globe (too bad about all those pretty collectibles)
softball
stamp
stationery (no matter how vintage your illustration of a letter might be)
stein
sticker (No sticktights in California? Lucky people.)
stockings
sunglasses
suspenders
sweatshirt
tank (I guess not even the army sort of tank)
taxidermy (Huh?!)
teapot
template
tie (No black suit and tie affairs)
tile ("tiled" and "tiling" is allowed)
treats (Singular "treat" is allowed, for instance in "trick or treat")
trophy
vase (Any flower you put in the vase will also be hidden.)
wallet
watch
weight (Only on bathroom scales. Can be used elsewhere)
woodcut (because Z apparently believes that cut wood is called woodcut)
Use your important words in the title, and your product is likely to be found.
Your turn!

Looking for help with Adult Coloring Posters that can have customized quotes added. I plan to create more with different patterns I create as the background. I am also creating Black versions where people can color the line art instead. Or just have a different style black and white poster to hang.
How might I improve on this listing?

Just brainstorming. Maybe something here will make you think of something good!
"your own quote on a poster"
"my quote on a poster"
"make your own coloring page"
"learn to draw"
"make your own art"
"color therapy"
"coloring therapy"
psychedelic ( I think yours is either an alternate spelling or a typo)
"floral art I can color"
"art therapy"
"Art gift"
"coloring gift"
This relates to custom quote adult coloring poster @SuzyLeeLo

I need help with tags and title on this card as it was published last year and is not in the marketplace. I think the title and tags should add it to the marketplace but when I searched the title I found nothing. Tech support confirmed this morning by email that there is nothing wrong with the indexing and that the problem lies with me.

When I search "Happy New Home Greeting Card" in Google, this card is the third result. When I search the same thing in Zazzle, two cards come up, one of which is yours. I may not really understand your question and may not understand what you think the problem is. And maybe I don't even know what the marketplace is.
I do, however, think you are missing some opportunities here as your illustration shows a bicycle, a cardinal, and a house reminiscent of a Swiss chalet. When a shopper looks for a new home greeting card, and wants to see cards with a bicycle, I do not think they are likely to find yours. Same with cardinal, bird, and chalet. You might consider dropping the generic tags "anyone" "greeting card" and "home" and "house" and replacing those with words which might attract someone looking for a new home bicycle card or a new home card with a bird on it.

I just saw it in the marketplace. Thank you for letting me know this. When tech support emailed me and told me that I needed to work on my title and tags. I thought I really needed help because I normally add tags that people would search for.
I thought "what the heck am I doing wrong" It seemed like a generic title that would populate the Zazzle marketplace but I did not see it there in many months, knowing that my products are finally migrating is really good news.
Thanks again for letting me know

I also need help with my title and tags because when I search for this thank you card in the marketplace I find it on a page all by itself.
Customers will never find it
I tried to do a unique title but I guess it is too unique. What do you suggest that I do to get this product back to where the action is ...in a populated thank you card marketplace. https://www.zazzle.com/s/green+linen+with+eucalyptus+leaves+thank+you+note+card

Maybe you would get more eyes on this card if you use the tag "invasive plants of north america" or "ecosystem destroying plants" I would definitely add the "pernicious" as a tag.

I have been using a plugin on my Chrome browser called Keyword Surfer. It's super helpful in trying to find ideas with your listings. When I search for just "eucalyptus cards" I can find new ideas.
By searching the Z Marketplace you can get new ideas as well. When searching for "eucalyptus cards" the results page gives you more ideas such as the header images:
I would even suggest checking out other places like Pinterest where people are searching for thank you cards. 🙂

Yes, it is a free plugin. But works for Chrome Browser on a desktop machine best.
Here is their website to tell you more about it: https://surferseo.com/keyword-surfer-extension/
If you are on Facebook I have a video I created for a Zazzle Creator Challenge event I did: How to install and use Keyword Surfer Plugin
Enjoy!
