Store cannot be changed after the collection has been created - issues

So I have had my store for nearly 10 years. As many creatives may have found for themselves, I have gone off niche many times. I have made some new stores, but just to secure the names (it's a bit like parking a domain name). I feel that since I have 2500 products (yikes! I seem to remember having 8k) and the niche has been infiltrated with daydreams, I need to subdivide. First issue is that I cannot simply assign my collections to stores. It seems they have been locked down with "Store cannot be changed after the collection has been created".
In other words.
• You can have one product and assign many collections.
• You can't have one collection and assign it to different stores.

The only solution is to create a duplicate collection for your other store. But, this is quite a big overhead for designers. Why can't we create one collection and assigning it to different stores? Or have I missed something?

Another question is whether I should keep a master store with everything in it or make my collections/products exclusive to each store. umm. How does this extra store affect external links? - something to think about.

you can add other store collections to other stores

go into your collection - edit

Under the Your Stores - you can select the stores you want the collection to be shown in

Select the store checkbox - then press save - the collection will then appear in your other store

No need to create duplicate collections per store

Interesting - so a collection can reside in 2 stores? But the actual products would just be in the original (one store)?  I too have some niches/products that I wish could be in their own new separate store but I don't think I can transfer them to a new store without losing all the stats.  As I understand I would have to repost them as new products. Any clarification is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
