Separate background layer images not rendered in the preview image next to the designer's name

For products with a separate background layer (e.g., gift bags, paper cups), when the non-background layers have a transparent background, images on the background layer don't appear to be rendered in the preview image that's shown next to the designer's name near the right side of the product page.

This is a gift bag example:

https://www.zazzle.com/50th_birthday_fancy_faux_wood_look_custom_name_medium_gift_bag-25646857908503...

The "Front: Images and Text" layer has a transparent background, and it includes some images and text that are mostly colored white.

The "Background: Images and Text" layer contains some images that cover the entire layer.

In the preview image next to the designer name on the product page, the "Front: Images and Text" content appears to be rendered, but the corresponding "Background: Images and Text" image isn't:

In that case, there's nearly nothing displayed, since almost all of the text and images on the front layer are white, and the page's background is white, too.

Here's another example, but with a paper cup:

Adding the background image to the front and back layers, and leaving the background layer empty and transparent, for example, isn't really a solution, since this can lead to white spaces on the sides of products like gift bags and paper cups.

Adding the background image to all layers doesn't necessarily work, either, such as for background images that don't tile cleanly.

It's not just the little design icon that's effected, either. If you use Transfer This Design you get really wonky results like these:

Wrapping Paper Flat Sheet Set of 3
Folded Greeting Card

Hi @Aponx ,

I can confirm that having reviewed your inquiry with our Team, that this is expected behavior. That image shows the first design area content only, it is not a product view. It does not show multiple design areas. I hope this helps to clear this up for you!

Thanks for looking into it.

Is there a reason why the layers aren't composited when displayed there?

As those examples show, the background layer is an integral part of the design in some cases.

This seems to affect the search results, too. For example:

https://www.zazzle.com/s/50th+birthday+gift+bag?q=50th%20birthday%20gift%20bag&sgsc=50th%3Abirthday%...

This is what the product looks like before hovering over it:

But this is what it looks like when hovering:

1.png

It's not very helpful, and potentially confusing for customers.

For products with separate background layers, maybe the full product rendering could be used instead next to the designer name and when hovering over search results, rather than just the first layer by itself?

Hey @Aponx,

I will be sure to pass this feedback along to the team!

Thanks for passing it along.

This problem also affects the new foil invitations, as well.

For example, hovering over this product in the search results:

shows this:

And the product page shows this:

Hi @Aponx,

I will pass this example on to the team as well. Thank you!
