I'm not sure about popularity. I use Wordpress with hosting by SiteGround mainly because it's what I'm most comfortable with and it seems to give me the most control over things. I'm old so I built my first websites by manually typing out the code, so I'm always impressed at how easy it is to set up websites these days with all the different template options out there.
