KUDOS

I know what kudos mean, but like a few other things that are new in the forum now, I am not sure what it is in this context or how it works.   I certainly am always grateful for the help others take time to share with me, so I try to always remember to tell them as much.   It seems that sometimes the kudos is part of a post when thanking someone, so a separate Kudos seems redundant.  I guess a score of sorts is kept to see how many kudos any one person gets and then they get broader recognition?  Certainly those who take time to help people like me deserve accolades.  I just am not sure if when I thank someone in a post because they have been particularly helpful to me, am I also supposed to check "Kudos"?

You certainly may click Kudos if you like--And actually there is a score kept of how many times you give Kudos, would you believe???  It's in your private stats.  Even though I can link it for you (I think), you will be glad to know that I cannot see your private stats  but I THINK you can see them here if you scroll way down the page.

I am not sure I love the ranking system. The ranks are supposed to help us know who is most knowledgeable, but I do not need this assistance. I found in the old forums, that after visiting the forums for about a week, I had a very clear idea of who was helpful and which people knew the most about which topics. So having the machine tell me who the helpful experts are seems to me to be unnecessary.

I also do Postcrossing!

I think kudos are a way of saying "thanks that was helpful" without having to add another reply to a thread just to say that. Under the hood though, they serve the bigger purpose of letting topics be sorted by "most kudoed" or "most helpful" or however Zazzle wants to word it. And since we the users give the "kudos" we the users are deciding what's most helpful not the machine 😉 . As the forum grows and the info, tips, advice, answers etc continue to collect, being able to sort by what the community "voted" most helpful may well be more beneficial for new users than wading through posts by most recent.

Since I  would feel bad if someone spent time helping me and I never thanked them.  I would want them to know I appreciate it.  So my question then is , if I just "Kudo" them, will they know that it pertains to a question that I asked and that the kudo is from me?  If not, then I would feel compelled to also reply in this space thanking them.

Yes. If people have Notifications on for Kudos (and I think they're on by default) they can see in their notification list who gave them kudos on what post. And viewing a post, anyone can click on the kudo box to see who kudoed it.

I use it when I want to say, thanks, I like it, I agree, +1 etc.

I give kudos when members reply to me (recognition I have read their post and am grateful for their time in responding etc).

I give kudos for good suggestions and ideas re other people's posts and comments to show support for those suggestions as well as appreciation.

I think of them the same as +1 (agreement)  or a like or an acknowlegment that I saw and appreciated your last reply or found your post helpful, etc...

I've had this exact debate in my head.  Is more like a "like" on other SM - or like an 'approved solutiion' kinda thing? Do I give a kudo when someone has solved a problem for me...or just when I like what was said?  The conversation here seems to indicate it can be either?

@Caprice you can accept solutions in addition to giving kudos on this forum and that will add a "jump to solution" link for any future readers as well as the solution poster gets credits for them.

How do I accept a solution?  I think I did it once, but can't remember how, lol.  I don't see a little button. 😠

I am not positive but I think you have to be the one who starts a thread to accept a solution (?)  Also in the idea section threads, I don't think we can. I am also just learning this new forum set up... so forgive me if I am wrong.  😉
