"Notify me when I post, reply, submit a review, or comment"

In our notification settings for the forum, why would I want to select "Notify me when I post, reply, submit a review, or comment"? I already know when I've done these things and don't need to be notified that I've done them. Or is this actually trying to say that, when others post in such a thread, I'll be notified?

I think it means notification via email?

I've already turned mine off (already get too many emails!)

The email settings are in a separate section on the page.

hmmm ... that is odd, then. someone may have been on auto-pilot on that page.

I'm going to checkmark everything in notifications to see what happens. I'll probably be sorry, but I can always turn things back off.

Oh dear. Well, you did warn yourself. 😉

I am replying to your post, which I guess is pretty much the same as posting. But wait, I have not turned on my notifications. So how will I ever know I have posted?? (It DOES seem like a silly notification option!)

I also do Postcrossing!

Windy, I was notified that you'd replied, but WHS, I wasn't notified of your reply. The difference is that Windy replied by clicking the reply button within my post but WHS did it by doing the general reply. Truly odd about this is that you, WHS, were replying to a thread where mine was the initial post, and I've selected, among others, "Automatically subscribe me to all topics or reviews I participate in." (Where are the mentioned "reviews"?)

Maybe notifications aren't quite up to snuff yet.

Most interesting!

This time, WHS, I was notified that you replied, and this time, you replied by clicking inside my post.

So it appears that using the general reply doesn't generate notifications but the direct reply (inside a post) does. I could deliberately subscribe to threads such as this and I bet I'd receive notifications for the least thing, even a butterfly fluttering past.
