Why is the Mute feature always grayed out?

I think that the Mute feature would be handy to use on those who spam / post inappropriate content (especially on the weekends when there are no moderators) ... but why is it always grayed out?

Yes, I have asked about this before. I would love to mute topics that I have no interest in (weddings, politics, etc.). This would be fantastic, especially since I am having computer response problems and hate having to open a thread to mark it as READ and wait AGAIN for the computer to respond and let me go to the next thread.

Until now, I didn't even notice Mute, probably because I didn't know what it was. Isn't it usually called "Ignore," or is that the word for when you want to not see posts by a specific person? Yes, a live "mute" would be handy.

@Barbara I guess it's even better as because as @BKMuir has pointed out, you don't have to scroll through and see topics you'd rather not. Making for a cleaner, less cluttered viewing experience. 🙂
