New Design Tool Template Layout Spotted for Some Items

This must be New or rolling out now... 

Just spotted a New Design Tool Layout when clicking Personalize on Invitations.  A different window opened up.  Then typed in Playing Cards, and Business Cards.  Same new layout template look for each of them!  Has tabs for Front, Back, Options and Review...

ETA:  Noticed this new template layout for Post Cards also.

Looks nice.  New look customers will see.  Looks similar to other sites over years for cards...

No.  Via my tablet yesterday I was looking at an item by another designer and clicked Personalize blue button and this new screen with tabs appeared.  This is just an example shown here.

ETA:  I just tried it via my smartphone, but that opens directly to the regular design tool.  So it's only my tablet showing this new way it seems when just the blue Personalize button shows.

Business card example when only blue Personalize button appears (via my tablet).  Clicked on it and this same window appears with tabs to go through... ex. of front and back:

Oh wow! Is there still an option for the customer to enter the design tool?

Yes, see the back of the business card above which is blank.  It has a link "Use our design tool".  And for this example business card, for the Front of card (shown in post above) where they have an image, you simply hover over image with tablet stylus pen, or click on it - and it says to Click to replace image.
 
Here's a sample I just did on it with my image and text on backside (which above posted image was blank by the designer).  It opens to the design tool with all the normal features of it, then when done goes back to the tabs.  After reviewing can select quantiy and shows price and add to cart button.  I didn't show that part but it's on that same last review tab.

I just found this template on my designs. As far as I can tell, they can't enter the design tool in order to make changes to fonts, sizes, colors, etc. All I can do as a customer in the new design tool is basic things like changing the text wording in the template fields. I hope I am just missing something, though!

Yes you're able to enter design tool and do everything.  See above examples.

Thanks, I did see those examples. But the only thing I can do in those front, back, options, and reviews fields are to change the wording for some reason. EDIT - I just realized that when I'm in the "back" field, if I look at the very bottom of the page it lets you click on the design tool.  But I almost completely overlooked it due to its position!

You're welcome.  What device are you using to see this on?

I'm using my laptop, with the Chrome browser.

I'm able to see this new feature and access it via my Samsung tablet.  I keep checking but it's not available via my Samsung smartphone, not yet anyway.

Hopefully this will be an improvement. Thanks for posting this. I can't see any of this on my end, so I'm sorta in the dark when it comes to advising customers on how to customize things. Are you seeing it on all devices, or just tablets and phones?

You're welcome.  I thought it looked pretty cool.  Definitely different for here...  I tired it again on my Samsung smartphone just now, but still can only see this via my Samsung tablet.  I didn't try it on my PC (but I don't use it much anymore).  But seems like it'll be available on all devices soon.  Maybe at least 🙂

I just opened one of my "personalize" designs. (on laptop) - there is no "Personalize This " option on the product window. I believe that this might have been mentioned in the last week. 

This sample was a mug with a name to personalize. All 3 mugs were missing the "personalize" option. I checked a backpack (made more recently) and the "personalize" area was there. Checked another mug that is set up for "personalize" and it also was missing the option for the buyer - can go in to design tool however.

Checked in the public store and the same sample as I tried still no Personalize area. Some other mugs had the option.

Some of the mugs flash with the edit option, then open without the "Personalize" area.

Seems this is something that is being phased in.

This feature seems to be in the testing stage as it appears randomly.

I think the 'edit using design tool' option should be visible on all the windows - 'Front', 'Back', and 'Options'. I did notice it on the 'Back' window for one pillow, but it was missing when I checked a different design. When you look at photos in customer reviews, many customers seem to enjoy customizing the design template by changing colors, etc. So, I think this option should still be made accessible.

I noted yesterday some other items I found this new feature on.  I just checked a pillow, as you noted.  On the Front of one there was a monogram and a floral background image, and it worked like I mentioned above and could hover over image to see the Click to replace image no problem...  But another pillow with a photo image to replace on the Front tab I was able to Click to replace that, but it also had multiple background decorative images on the Front that I was not able to Click to change images, and must of been because they didn't have those images set as a template, therefore it didn't show up on the Front tab, but then after clicking on the Back tab I clicked on the Use our design tool link and was able to move around or delete images normally within the design tool as the images were not locked...  So yes, the tabs should all include a link to edit using the design tool.

@SheaPrints @ChristineK I wholeheartedly agree that the design tool should always be accessible. For some designs it's just a "nicety" but for some of my wedding save the date calendars, it's the only way they can move the heart to the appropriate date. 

I hope Zazzle will clarify soon. I understand the need to make changes, and I fully support anything that makes it easier for the customer, but I don't think Zazzle realizes how much time we spend walking customers through the customization and ordering process. When they make a change without notifying us, we end up sending customers the wrong instructions, and it just causes confusion all around.

I agree, Cat! I just posted below again that after looking closely at it a few times, I found a link to enter the design tool at the bottom of the "back" field. But at least to me it seems to be easily missed!
