Only the Post Author Should be able to Accept a Response as the Solution

I've noticed that in this forum anyone can accept a respone as the solution even if they are not the post author. Seems to me that only the author should be able to accept a solution because other readers don't have the necessary information to gauge whether a problem has been resolved or not.

I''ve noticed in my posts in the past, and other peoples posts, solutions even given by/to mods, etc.

The post creator and the moderation staff have the ability to mark a post as the solution. This provides us with the ability to highlight the correct answer to a question.

In the Pro forum anyone can set a post as the Accepted Solution.

Have there been issues with this approach? If so feel free to send links my way. If there's abuse then we'll discuss adjusting things.

OK.. that makes sense, but why the exception for the pro forum? I noticed it in a post on the pro silver forum where I'm trying to sort through an issue. Someone (not me) marked it as solved, but in my mind the issue is still unresolved - at least I'm still confused about what's going on. Maybe a mod marked it as resolved, but I'm still not understanding the issue. I'm not upset or angry or anything, but having the post marked as solved means that other designers are not likely to read it, so they're not likely to weigh in and offer their thoughts on the issue.

Fixed. If you see this happen again just make note of it in the discussion thread. It's possible it was an accident, or maybe the poster felt that they solved the issue. If no action is taken in a day or two then tag a moderator and we'll take a look.

No worries - it's not a big deal, especially on this particular thread. It just seems like I've almost accidentally clicked on the "accept as solution" button on someone else's thread from time to time because as soon as you click the reply button it disappears and your mouse is then hovering over the "accept as solution" button. So you're saying that even if I accidentally did click it on someone else's thread nothing would happen?

@Scott
Hi Scott, I only mentioned in my post just now that mods have been given solutions, and actually I have frequently chosen mods replies as solutions even tho in most cases I was not the author of the post, and have also chosen posts of non authors as solutions. I have no issues with it.
Thanks, Scott, for your posts in the forum helping with problems, finding solutions when you can.
 I try to  help out with posted  questions where I can,and don't always get any response from the author. The most important thing to me is that my reply to any post is there to help everyone on the forum.

I've seen this on occasion, and when I have, it's appeared to be caused by clicking the Reply button where it changes to "mark as solution," which is truly easy to click by mistake.
