Suspicious DM from someone claiming they are planning to buy a product wholesale...

LS_Star

... And sell it in large quantities. It was a two part message that started with the auto "someone had a question about [product link]" Then they asked if I could talk about it on Insta and gave my a name and an icon description. I just had a feeling in my gut that something was off, this wasn't like any other DMs from shoppers I've received before. Then I googled it and nothing came up. And I mean nothing. I was asked to search something else

I'm already uncomfortable with the idea of someone reselling my designs. But this user sounds like a bot as the zazzle account was also empty. It also sounds strange to me to basically say, "I'm going to take the design you spent hours on then ask you to promote me."

Has anyone else received the same or similar DM?

First time poster and on mobile, sorry if the formatting is weird.

If the message seems questionable to you, the only way Zazzle can investigate it is if you report it.

You HAVE to report them, take a screenshot for Z to work with. Give Z whatever info you have concerning the message.

I got the same message. I asked for more clarification and didn't get any answer.

Well it's reassuring to know it was not just me. Thank you for the update about lack of reply, I sat on replying because of my gut feeling.

Was the user a Jone Johanna? Or equally common name?

Lais

Yes! I got a message from "her" today! 😂 Another one was "Joseph Robert" .

I got ailishalisi nadil, now if that isn't a red flag name I don't know what is. 😁

I received the same message from 'ailishalisi nadil' twice, to follow instagram id hailide3 and another one from 'joseph robert'.

Just block them all, I got all different names, that are on Instagram but I would not at all add them because they would hack my page and add a million friends or something.

I blocked and reported them but I don't want to be doing this day after day....

I just wrote Zazzle and asked them to come up with some code to block out spammers somehow. Just like regular email does...

Lais

I've tried adding one of them. Still haven't hacked my account. I guess they may try to hack an account by that old method of saying "a code was sent to your phone number via SMS, can you tell me which code it is?". Otherwise, I don't know how they would hack an account with a simple following request. Anyway, I'm curious, so I'll search for it.

Have gotten several of these. Does Z have a site security issue? Or is there a plan to filter or stop these messages from coming through repeatedly? Perhaps Zazzle should liase with instagram?

the spam on instagram is even worse so I doubt that will help. lol! I think any time you open a feature up like a chat box, its going to be subject to spam bots. I'm never quite sure what the end goal is for the spam bots and farms. I cant see how this generates revenue for these things, but nevertheless they persist.

There is a "report this user" button right in the chat window.   that is what I used when I got a message like this today.

Then I blocked the user who is now on my blocked list.  I never responded to the message at all.  Zazzle can go into my chat and find them from the report I made right there.

Thanks for posting. I was having trouble finding the "report this user" button and needed it for a spammer today. I also blocked them. I did tell them before I blocked them to contact Zazzle customer service for any additional requests.

There was a scam floating around a few weeks ago, detailed here in this thread.  I don't know if this new one is related, but it's clear from the thread that Zazzle does want to know when these suspicious things are happening. https://community.zazzle.com/t5/general-zazzle-discussion/conversations-with-a-scammer-have-you-been...

Anyone who wants to buy your product wholesale and resell it would do the following: 1) provide their whole name or company name and contacts (usually website) 2) never ask you for your IG or any other social media 3) ask you under what conditions you would agree to sell it wholesale, if there's something specific besides JUST buying from Z and reselling (which is fine and doesn't require contacting you at all).

Anything that doesn't fit all three is a scam. Don't think twice. Report and forget.

Also, unrelated, for those who understand, the more options there are to contact anyone on the site, the more scammers you will have to deal with, funny enough.

Thanks for mentioning this. We'll keep an eye on this user.

As always, if you find a situation that you feel uncomfortable with please report the user. You can do this by clicking on the three dots that appear in the upper right hand corner of the page, which should open a Details menu. Then go to the user's name and click on the three dots next to their name, and click Report.

I also got 3 messages like that this morning in a span of 3 hours. Because I was at work in the middle of something and didn't have time to think twice (English is not my first language), I just sent auto-response to the first 2 of them but after the 3rd one, I reported them all.

Got the same message, likely a scam. But apparently can't find report as spam button in the chat section

You have to click at the three dots:3dots.png
And three dots again:

Finally, "report user" and "it's a spam".
If it's not possible it's because that user is already gone. 😪

I got the same message and reported it. I was recently hacked on Instagram (still haven't recovered the account). There appears to be some security problem with Instagram and that's why the hackers want to get you over there.

I got this exact message today. I reported the account as spam, and "Millie's" profile now says anonymous.

What information are you looking for.  I received one from "millie" yesterday, and one from "jone joanna" today.  Is there anything else you are looking for?

Kudos to the team for quickly suspending accounts that are spamming.  It's a bit like whack-a-mole these days...😂

Yes, I already got six of these messages. These are the users' profiles:
