This post is being written for Zazzle customers who purchase cards:
Since this is internet searchable, maybe some of you will find this and understand what gets removed when you tick the box next to"Remove Independent Creator Credit."
But first a little history. Over a year ago, and well before that, all cards that Zazzle sold and printed for you had an area on the back of the card where Zazzle placed there "Z" logo. Designers could not remove this, nor could we design around it. You could not remove it either. At some point in time, around a year, year and a half ago, Zazzle opened the entire back of the card for us to design on and for a brief period of time, the was no "Z" logo at all. Shortly after that Zazzle began utilizing a new "attribution" function. It has taken a few forms over the last year and still, at the time of writing this, appears in a few different forms. You may see a white stripe with a red heart next to the word " Zazzle" and then a store name on the back of some cards and on others there is now a QRCode with a store name on the backs of some cards. You may also find an attribution on the inside of some cards. These were placed upon the cards with no warning to the designer community often covering parts of a designers card design.
When you click the box next to "Remove Independent Creator Credit", it is the Zazzle placed white bar and text or QRCode that you can remove from the card. Many designers place their own store logos or websites on their cards for advertising/marketing purposes. Those will not be removed when you click that box.
In some cases the Z attribution does not affect the card and you can choose to pay the fee to remove it if you desire. In some cases, in order to keep the integrity of the original design created by the designer, it is necessary to pay the fee as the attribution that Z placed on the card ruins the card design. Many designers feel bad that you have to pay extra to have their design integrity preserved. Many have redesigned our cards to negate that impact. In doing so we lose all our sales stats and our Marketplace rankings. This can set a well selling card back to not selling well at all. So some of us have made the decision to leave the attribution in place, hoping you notice its impact and don't mind paying extra to preserve our design.
Zazzle did give us a work around where we can choose to automatically charge you that extra fee. We can set it so that box next to "Remove Independent Creator Credit" is ticked off. But you do have the option to untick it and save yourself 5 - 18 cents. Please check the back of the card when you tick or untick that box to be sure that you receive a beautiful product.
Only designers and Zazzle know who the Creator is. Zazzle creates the card. Not designers. We only create the designs that get printed on the cards. Very recently Zazzle has decided to call all of us "Creators". It is important that you know that Designers (Creators) don't actually make the card. We don't print it, sell it or ship it. All of those things are handled by Zazzle. Zazzle also has control over the attribution that has been added to cards, where its placement is, and what the text next to that tick box reads. We continue to provide feedback to Zazzle regarding the attribution model and about what the text next to the box says. Please understand that no matter what the text next to the box says, if a designer (creator) places a logo or website address on the card they designed, that will not be removed when the box is ticked.
I hope that this can be widely found via the web so that some clarity is given to all Zazzle customers concerning the attribution on cards sold through Zazzle.
As designers (creators) we greatly appreciate your business and we appreciate Zazzles dedication to us, to their product choices, as their cards are top notch, and to them always listening to us and adapting as time goes on. I also hope that this post helps all customers understand how the "Remove Independent Creator Credit" tick box works and what to expect if they decide to tick it.
Thank you for shopping Zazzle and supporting independent designers from around the world,
~ The Pacifier City Cards Crew ~
PS. On a personal note, we are happy with the new QRCode attribution as it makes it very easy for folks to visit our store, www.zazzle.com/store/pacifier_city_cards by just pointing your phone at it. We are working hard to make the necessary adjustments to our cards so that this attribution does not negatively impact our card designs as we would like you to choose to keep it and save a few cents in doing so. Please visit our store to find the next birthday card or holiday card that you purchase for a child 14 and under. We have great cards that they will be thrilled to receive one. Come take a look!
