If you're reading this post for the first time, please note that we just posted an update with new information herehttps://community.zazzle.com/t5/general-zazzle-discussion/creator-updates-for-upcoming-instant-downl...

*****

Hi Everyone,

We wanted to let you know that we've added some additional information about our upcoming instant download offering on Zazzle. You can find the news article here

Most importantly, the deadline for opting out of this new feature is January 12th. This opt-out date is for entire stores. Once the program is launched you'll be able to add or remove individual products as you wish.

Also in the article are links to additional information about this new feature, including a FAQ if you're looking to review all of the basics.

You're welcome to ask questions below, and we will do our best to provide answers in a timely manner. We may be able to answer some questions immediately, but sometimes we may need a bit of time to check in with the appropriate member of the team. It's also possible that someone here at the office may stick around after hours and update our FAQ document with a handful of questions at once. In any event, we'll be doing our best to ensure that everyone is able to receive clarity on this new offering.

Is there a way to opt in/out of certain products? (I would prefer prints not be included)

Will a bulk option be available to opt in/out?

Thanks!

Hi MC,Not sure if this clearly answers your question….
In the faq—- https://www.zazzle.com/creators/playbook/instant+downloads+faqs

Can I opt into Instant Downloads at a per-product or category level? As Content Creators, it is 100% your decision if you would like to participate in Instant Downloads. We have provided the Digital Migration as a one-time conveinence for Creators who want to opt-in their entire store by bulk-migrating onto eligible products. To this end, you will still have the opportunity to opt-in at a per-product as well as a per-category level using the Products Tab in Store Management Dashboard even if you decide not to take advantage of the Digital Migration.

Thanks, that wording was a little confusing to me. But it sounds like a yes. Thanks!

Once the feature is launched you'll be able to include/exclude individual products in your store backend. This action will be similar to how you can add multiple products to a store category at once, or set multiple products to Hidden status. This means that you can opt-in the store, then (once the test starts) you can select all posters and exclude them. Or, you can stay opted out, and then (once the test starts) you can include certain products of your choosing.

Ok, so it sounds like I could opt in everything ... then once this feature is live, opt out the category posters ... then opt in posters one at a time if I want to test the waters?

Thank you!

So, Save the Date cards are not included? This strikes me as a little bit odd since all of your example images are Save the Dates. Are those considered invitations, or do we need to transfer all of our Save the Date designs to invitations in order to make them available for download?

Just wondering where you see that they aren't included? I'm seeing this in the FAQs :

The initial beta test will focus on four major product lines:

  • Holiday Cards (excluding foil)
  • Invitations and Save the Dates (excluding foil and All-in-One)
  • Greeting cards
  • Posters & Print

They're included. After your post we updated the docs to clarify this.

(This is why Baylee now sees them listed but you did not.)

Hooray! Thanks so much for clarifying!

Are digital downloads subject to discounts? For example, when there is a 50% off sale on invitations, does that apply to digital downloads?

That’s a really good question, hope that a mod answers.

I look forward to seeing the digital downloads, but there are a couple of things I'm afraid of.  One is the unlimited edits and downloads.  The unlimited downloads I think is fine if they are downloading the item with the same wording (or changed to fix spelling or date changes).  But having unlimited edits and downloads makes it easy for people to steal our artwork/ designs because they can buy it once, set up a website, and sell our designs by using the unlimited edits and downloads feature.  Can 3 or 4 edits be the maximum allowed?

I also wonder if text is supposed to be in the design, will the customers be forced to have some text on the download, so they can't just erase all of the text and take the entire design and upload it and sell it somewhere else?

I thought exactly the same thing. The idea of instant download is wonderful, but there are some points that unfortunately leave me puzzled. Granting customers the possibility of endless downloads with the consequent possibility of modifying edited data, can solicit those who might want to take possession of non-own templates and make it a business. Also because a license is granted to download as many times as the customer wants. Would it not be better to give the customer the opportunity to edit once, as if a printed file, obtaining the instant download, with the chosen text, so as to protect the design file as edited copyright?

Where can we go to opt out completely? Thanks!

Can I opt out of Instant Downloads? You have until January 12, 2023 to opt out of the one-time Digital Migration. To opt out of Instant Downloads, you can go to your Store's Advanced Settings (Store > Setting > Advanced Settings) and unchecking the box labeled "Migrate my eligible products to be sold as an Instant Download." After January 12, 2023 you will have the ability to manage which products you want to make available for Instant Downloads using the Products Tab of your Store Management Dashboard.

<Moderator edit: I've updated the quoted text above to reflect the opt-out date of January 12, 2023. The quote was taken from our docs, and they've been a bit slow to update. Apologies for the confusion this may have caused.>

Thanks for that.  So I missed the chance to opt out completely?  I don't recall hearing about this before October 31st.  Perhaps I did, because I cannot find anything under the PRODUCTS tab to manage it. 🙄

The opt-out date is January 12th.

As noted above, the setting is not found in the Products tab. It's found in the Settings tab. Go to your store, then Settings -> Advanced Settings and you should see it.

Ahh, there it is!  Thanks, Scott!  😊

If you go to the back end of your store where thumbs of your products appear, you'll see tabs just beneath your banner image. The tab on the far right is Settings. Click on it, and then on the left will be a listing for store information. In that list is Advanced Settings. Click on it. Scroll down just a bit where you'll find the yellowish box of information about digital products. At the bottom of the yellow area is a small checkbox. If you want to opt out, make sure to click the little box to uncheck it if it has a check in it.

Are the Storytree studios photo templates made available through Zazzle allowed to be used in digital sales?

I also need to know about the collection of people photographs by Storytree Studios that Zazzle provided years ago for use as placeholders on products. Does the license that Zazzle has with Storytree Studios allow for digital downloads?

Or would all eligible digital download products using those photographs require Force Replace to be enabled now?

Does "posters and prints" include flyers? Flyers normally have a minimum order of 25, so not sure. Also, if we do want to offer a poster as digital, but reformat it to fit a smaller size and list that as a separate product, yet we keep the original large size poster for physical product sale, would that be considered a duplicate product listing?

SCOTT - how do we opt-out???  There is no link or FAQ that helps - can you?

Barbara

In your store's Settings, go to Advanced Settings, scroll down a bit, and you'll see a highlighted block of text where you can opt out.

It's within each store, not in your main account. You will need to go to each store and go to settings > advanced settings and UNclick "Migrate my eligible products to be sold as an Instant Download" which is in the big yellow box.

Hello,

Actually I tried to go to settings to enable the migration but I didn't find the option to activate it.

Thank you in advance!

Barbara

Are you within a store (not your account) when you're looking for Settings > Advanced Settings? You won't find it in your account.

ohh thank you so much, my bad!!

Don't think a thing of it. Even those of us who've been here for quite a while have periodic fits trying to find where Zazzle has tucked away a bit information.

I don't mind if my designs are sold to be used as digital cards etc, with the right quality for that use and intended to be sent by post, WhatsApp etc... as many people don't want to print and waste paper and It seems to me a correct choice according to each person and their principles, they will pay a price for it and it will be like any other sale. But I don't want the final art of my design to be sold to be printed or reused infinite times, much less to be canceled and void my copyright. I think it's not a good idea. And anyone who has navigated forums and groups offering their products knows that many people are capable of doing anything: claiming other people's designs, selling gifts that others have offered in a friendly way... All kinds of things... Many of us fight against pirates who steal your work, I even had to report a person who copied my template right here, including the texts... So maybe I will decide product by product because besides what I think about this topic, I can't conflict with the sites where I buy my fonts and vectors.
