I've been promoting on Twitter for years. Two or three months ago, Twitter began offering users the opportunity to switch to a "professional" account for free. Hey, it's for FREE! What could go wrong? Well, as soon as I did that, my engagements seemed to diminish. And the Analytics section has gone haywire. For many weeks, I've only been able to see stats for the current day even when I'm setting the period to be analyzed for 3 months. Coincidence? In retrospect, I'm thinking that when you switch to a pro account, it alerts Twitter that you are currently making, or intend to make, money via Twitter! And they want a piece. I guess I can't blame Elon for wanting to recoup some of the $44 billion he shelled out!
Anyway, I switched back to non-professional status after about a month as a "pro." But my number of engagements has not really bounced back. I recently verified my account and got a blue check, thinking that might help. At $8 a month, that is affordable. But it hasn't increased my number of engagements. Neither has it caused Analytics to behave as it should.
While I was operating as a professional, I took a look at the cost of promoting. If you're a Platinum level seller, you might be able to pay hundreds of dollars for a week of promoting a single tweet. I'm not in that league. The minimum fee for a one-day promotion of one product or collection is ten bucks. I thought about giving that a try. But then I realized that Christmas shopping has slowed to a crawl. Maybe later.
I'm curious to hear if any other Twitter promoters have encountered similar problems after switching to Twitter Professional. And if you haven't switched, you might want to ask around, first. Once you've made the jump, I personally don't think you can go back to tweetness as usual.

Twitter is too chaotic right now and the rules keep changing. I wouldn't pay for anything or change anything until Musk gets a new person running it.

It's always possible that some of those who got canned engaged in a little sabotage on the way out. I hope the Analytics glitch is straightened out soon as I always found it useful. But, strangely enough, my Promoter referral credits actually increased a bit over last year at this time despite the drop in clickouts.

I've just created a Twitter account purely to post my daily sales. My reasoning is that people might not like having items being promoted all the time, whereas if it was a Twitter profile that made it clear that it was purely posting items sold as a matter of interest, it would be more acceptable. I only have a couple of followers so far, whereas my personal Twitter account has several thousand. Posting my daily sales is so easy with Zazzle, and I'm interested to see how it goes. I shall be adding appropriate hashtags of course.

Google, according to what I just read, had a partnership with Twitter until, for unknown reasons, it was ended in 2011. Probably because of the quick speed at which Twitter runs and the much slower one for Google. The partnership seems about to be renewed, but what Google is looking for appears to be products. I'm thinking the change might be affecting analytics. All guesswork on my part.
P.S. I doubt it's the money Musk paid for Twitter that he's trying to recoup, not directly anyway. It appears Twitter was on the verge of bankruptcy before Musk showed up. Thus, if Twitter lands in the dumpster, so does Musk. Sort of. He's a very rich man.
