Questions Regarding the Creation and Arrangement of Store Categories 2024
I am in the process of trying to open a multi niche shop. I have some questions regarding store categories, subcategories and category trees.
I have searched exhaustively and cannot get answers to my questions regarding store categories.
Let me preface this by stating that I did pose this question in the forum some time ago but I feel I need a refresher.
Question 1 - Should we create store categories and subcategories based upon product type?
I have received very conflicting information.
Some have stated naming store categories based upon product type is a very bad idea while others have stated that it's a great way to generate sales and helps potential customers easily find what they are looking for?
If one has a main category like Electronics should one create subcategories like phone cases, tech skins to nest underneath Electronics that visitors and potential customers can click on and navigate?
Category arrangement. Is this how categories and subcategories should be named and arranged?
Electronics - Phone Cases
- Tech Skins
Fashion - Leggings
- Bags
- T - Shirts
School Home and Office -
Notebooks -
Pillows -
Wall Art -
Will this help potential customers to find what they are looking for? Or this too busy? Will potential shoppers just get overwhelmed and bail if we have too many categories and subcategories?
I have a second question which ties in with this one. That will be in part two.
I thank anyone in advance for any input, advice or suggestions that they can provide.
I hope this thread will help others who have the same or similar questions regarding store categories and subcategories.
I know that there are no set rules and it is contingent upon each store and that there is no one template. I just need input and suggestions from those who have knowledge and experience with store category naming and arrangement.
Screenshots of good category naming and structure would be greatly appreciated.
I have seen how some shopkeepers have their categories named and arranged but I am still lost and confused.
Thanks in advance. Will wait to hear back.
