I have never bothered with grouping items with designs that are the same except for the color. Now I am experimenting with it. I know no one has a definitive answers, but does anyone have an opinion of whether it really helps with sales? I am really reluctant to create new products because of the effect it has on Z-rank to have a bunch of products in the store that haven't sold. My rank dropped from 7 to 6 and it can only be accounted for because I have been adding new products daily. It is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. I would like to know if the same design in different color choices really helps sales.

Mine took about a week. I gave up on it and thought it hadn't worked and then suddenly it was there. You can tell grouping has been successful in the back end because a little gray dot triangle shows up next to the listing of the products.

Zazzle has a definitive answer, I remember how they said in the old forum that offering various color themes + grouping is very good for sales. They also said something like "customers respond extremely well to seeing various color options" which I also read as "grouping increases sales".

Is there a way to group similar designs as opposed to the same design in different colors? I haven't seen a choice for doing this.

No option for grouping by anything but color. There is a bot that can figure out the dominant color in a design. All you are doing when you group things together is telling the bot that you want it to look at the dominant colors in the selected products. But the bot wouldn't have the ability to "see" anything but color.

How long does it take before you know if it worked? So far it looks like it hasn't taken effect yet, if at all.

That's been my understanding, particularly since we have to be careful how we title the products. For instance, "Teddy Bear on Blue," "Teddy Bear on Green," "Teddy Bear on Red," etc.

I haven't had any "groupable" designs lately, but quite a while ago, it seemed to take a couple days.
