FanMerch Tag warning

I get a warning about FanMerch tags occasionally. I think it's actually supposed to be a warning about the number of characters in the tag and not about FanMerch tags. I experimented and it let it go when I whittled down the characters to 40. I'm using generic words, so it can't actually be a FanMerch issue. (Whatever that is. Help has zero info about it.)

I get the same issue. I thought FanMerch was supposed to relate to things companies that allowed "Fan Merchandising", I think "Ford" was one. Like you I am getting it flag up on some long tail keyword combinations that are generic words.

Hi @lewister ,

Thanks for reaching out! Can you post a screenshot of the warning message you are receiving if possible? We'll be happy to take a look.

Hi @Emma I appear to have a skill for getting the "Fanmerch" flag this morning, another example.

I have been getting that for about a month now on and off most the time when I have five words together

I have also had that warning in the past... I just rearranged the words and it went away.

Can we get some additional clarification?

I keep getting that today too.  This was 5 months ago - was there an answer?  What is a FanMerch tag?

I've gotten those as well in the past. Again, by rearranging the tags, it went away. 🙄

I get them but rearranging the words doesn't always help. What is FanMerch anyway?

I just got the same thing, looks like the issue was never fixed

Received the same, "Only one FanMerch tag can be added." warning today for a long tag.

I was encouraged. Does that mean my tags are so dangerous (awesome) they are suspect (of too great)? Really hope so.

I’m getting this a lot today. It doesn’t seem to be the actual words. In reality is there a character limit as well as a word limit?

Yes, it's a character limit. Tags can be 40 characters max and that includes spaces. If you go over the limit you get this error message about fan merch. I use this character counter.

We're at the end of July. I am having the same issue, particularly with long-tail tags. I play around with the order of the words, see if that helps.

here are 4 words that trigger this error message in different order: christmas/ typography/ festive/wrapping paper

gift wrap works, but wrapping paper does not.

Tags cannot exceed 40 characters, including spaces. When you added wrapping paper to your tag, it exceeded the 40 character limit. Gift wrap was shorter, so that brought you under the 40 character limit.

@DancingPelican Thank you for taking the time to help. If only the warning or error message could be more specific ie: "tag exceeds 40 character including spaces". Only 1 FanMerch tag allowed, does not make sense here @Emma . Best,

I'm getting this a lot recently. I can often resubmit the exact tags that were rejected after adding and removing a new temporary tag, and they'll be accepted.
