Forum dates confusing

So I am trying to follow the thread around the views not updating (which is still NOT fixed), but I get to threads that are old

This is the last page of the thread that I can get to, yet it is in the Technical issues listed as a recently updated thread.

Happening in both Chrome and Firefox.

I really don't have time for this.

Thank you.

the first (1/16/23) and newest under the post in this link, old post from Harmony, is from DBCartoons

I already posted that the latest "last viewed date issue"  SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN added by the mod to the old post from Harmony. It wastes our time, and is discouraging and frustrating.
And you are right, as of today 1/16 the no views/last viewed issue has been ongoing (for me) since the end of day 1/8/23.

Thank you, @idraw ! However that leads to the screenshot I posted above. The only way to find out if there is new activity is through the notifications, however I can only see those in my emails ...

Your screenshot is from page 5  https://community.zazzle.com/t5/technical-issues/last-viewed-date-not-updating/td-p/42798/page/5

of this mess, try going to the bottom of page 5 that has Boki/scott post, and clicking on page 1, that should take you to the most current post that I already llisted. Using Firefox myself.
Here is the link to page 1 for the current post.

O, I think I found what it is. The standard sorting of newest to oldest is not working for me. Only when I reverse that and scroll to the end I can see the latest posts. GGrrr.

Anyway, thank you, @idraw

The number of work-arounds needed on this site is just amazing ...

Sounds like you changed the post ordering to "Newest to Oldest" which means that going to the final page of discussion will show the oldest posts. That's what your screenshot shows. I'd change it back to "Oldest to Newest."

If you go into your forum settings - Preferences, you'll find a lot of options for customizing your default forum layout.

I used to use Threaded view because it makes it so visually easy to see who is responding to what. But when I was trying to "follow" the Q&A thread about digital downloads which got very long, the Threaded view was very inconvenient for finding the new/unread posts. That because with new replies being made to different comments old or new throughout the thread, the three newest replies might be on three different pages as "sub" comments to the comments they were replies to so even sorting by Newest in that view required a lot of scrolling around with a disoriented sense of chronology.

I changed to Linear view, sorted Oldest to Newest and while you lose the visual of the conversation flow in this layout, it's much much easier for quickly seeing the newest replies regardless of which comment in the thread they were made to.  Now, when viewing the topic list I just right-click on the "# unread" which opens the thread in a new tab with the first/oldest unread comment at the top of the page and then you can scroll down to see the rest in chronological order. Then I just close the tab and am back on the forum topic list to scroll. Then when I've looked at all I want to look at in a forum I click the "mark all as read" option. That un-bolds the threads I'm not interested in and keeps things "fresh" for my next visit.

It's very quick and convenient especially when threads get very long and/or span a long time period. So check out your forum display preferences and settle on whichever combination of options works best for you.
