Mute Button Use

I was trying to figure out how to unsubscribe to the gazillions of posts I was getting notifications on regarding Paypal payments yesterday.

Just a heads up

I did two things
1. I clicked the drop down arrow for the post and noticed a Mute button. Worried I might be muting the creator but hoping it meant muting the notifications for that post I reluctantly selected mute... an it unsubscribed me to the post thread.

2. in my profile settings there is s checkbox to subscribe to posts.... I unchecked it.

It would be nice BTW if the Creators drop down had a link to our profiles as a shortcut to getting there as there doesn't seem to be a really obvious way to find our way to our profiles when needed. Thx

There is a dropdown at the far right top corner that says 'Options' where you can unsubscribe to a thread. I'm not sure what 'Mute' does.

Thx. I found that and clicked it. When I saw the mute button I wasn't really sure what was going to happen because it's not really explained anywhere. I felt like a novice on a rocket ship to the moon pressing a button but not sure if it was going to take me into space or blow up the rocket... it was risky lol  But I do vaguely remember seeing some reference to opting out that discussion / or stopping receiving updates to that post or something to that effect after having clocked mute.

Yes, I would use the Unsubscribe feature for this.

When you reply to posts you're automatically subscribed the the discussion thread. You can disable this by going in to your My Settings, then go to Preferences, then uncheck the box for "Automatically subscribe me to topics or reviews I participate in"

Does muting a user mean they can nolonger contribute to that specific thread? Thanks

No... the mute button only affects what *you* see... not any other user. If you mute someone or mute a thread, you will no longer see that person or that thread, but everyone else will be able to and that person's ability to use the forum will not be impacted.
In any case, what mute does appears to be moot.... it's greyed out, at least it is so far as I've seen.

I wish the "mute" would become active again. If it works as described, I would love to "turn off" several threads that I do not, and probably will never, have any interest in.

I had been looking for a way to ignore/hide unwanted threads when I came across this one.
